a favorite story about my wife

one thing you need to understand about my wife is that she is one of the worst "shotguns" in history. she is one of those people who can sit down in a car and within the first 17 seconds be totally out cold...i guess you could say she enjoys her sleep. well, we went to pensecola, fl for our honeymoon. we got married in carthage, mo and so obviously it's a pretty long haul from missouri to florida...and me being the broke youth minister that i am there was no way in the world we were going to fly. for weeks leading up to our wedding i was telling heather that she was going to have to be strong for me and do everything in her power to stay awake while we were driving, so she could help me stay awake...and...i guess you could say she tried...but she continued to fall asleep and so i would wake her up and she would fall back asleep, and this happened over and over again. so now we are driving somewhere in the middle of mississippi or something and once again my beautiful new bride is 100% out cold. so i start thinking...and i get an idea that would definitely keep her from falling asleep. so i look at her and get nervous thinking should i do this...on my honeymoon???? but i decide what the heck i warned her to stay awake and she is for dang sure not awake, and that's when it happened. i leaned over by her ear and i did my best impression of jim carey's "most annoying sound in the world" from dumb and dumber...the first time she just sort of moaned and told me to stop...and i did...for a minute or two, and then i did it again and my new bride did something i never thought she would do...i didn't even know she knew how to do it...without any hesitation she leaned up and punched me right in the jaw. now i'm not talking about a little tap, i am talking about all 97 pounds of her giving me the stinkin' left, right combo...and i for one was stunned. well she felt bad...and i helped her feel bad...but hey can you really think of a better way to start off a honeymoon than with your new beautiful bride jacking you in your jaw???

i love you heather :)

i'm gonna be a dad!

most of you probably know, but just in case you don't Heather is pregnant. She is about 2 months along and we are looking at a mid June due date. We are extremely pumped and extremely anxious/nervous. so, if you think about it we would appreciate your prayers as we see how this whole parent thing works.

Things of Jesus never cease to exist

If you have already read my brothers blog, you probably know what it is that I am going to write about. These are my thoughts right now, the day before I go to my Grandpa's funeral and see him laid to rest. To start off I want to tell you all a little bit about my Grandpa, just some of my favorite memories of him. Like my brother, I too remember going to my Grandma and Grandpa's house every Sunday after church. I remember the prayer that he would pray, how he was "so greatful and thankful for Your (God's) love and Your care," and how he would always pray to bless this food to the nourishment of our bodies. I remember that after Grandpa would finish what he was eating that he would take a slice of bread and basically totally clean his plate with that bread so that he didn't leave ANYTHING on his plate. Grandpa was a quiet, peaceful, hardworking man. He loved his family so much, he love us so much. Everytime that I got to talk to my grandparents they were always sure to tell me or remind me that they were praying for me every single day and they would tell me not to forget that. I remember making my grandpa laugh, I remember kissing him on the cheek and alway feeling his whiskers, I remember how he would wear his hat with his hair sticking out of the back of it. I miss him so much already!
I was sitting in a graduation on Tuesday when I got the call. I tried to hold it together until I got out of the building...I couldn't do it. I drove through Charlotte screaming and bawling. My grandma and grandpa just celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary this past weekend. My grandpa adored my wife.
To close this out I am just going to share some of the main things that I learned from my grandpa, and maybe all of us can learn this from him.
you are never too old to study about Jesus
you can never love your family enough
you can never love your wife enough (he treasured my grandma) (please pray for her, she doesn't know what she is going to do)
always be humble
serve Jesus
work hard

As I sit here with tears welling up, I just want to say that I love my grandpa, and if I would of spent every minute of the last 24 years of my life with him, it still wouldn't of been enough. I love you Grandpa and thanks for praying for me and loving me, thanks for the hugs and kisses, and thanks for being proud of me (he loved it that my brother and I are both ministers). Thanks Grandpa for all you have done. And it's almost like I can hear him say the same words that he would every time we would leave his presense...I almost can hear him say "come and see me" and it's such a comfort to know that even today I can answer that the same way I did when he was alive..."I will"

I'll see you soon! I love you Grandpa and Thank You so Much!

Please pray for my family, Uncle Don, Uncle Bill, Mom, Aunt Deb, and especially my Grandma

ps...cherish the people you love and love the people you cherish
